Click'N Burn Pro 2.0
By Terry Kerby

Click'N Burn Pro 2.0 is a full CD recording software suite consisting of five different products produced by Stomp Incorporated.  It allows you to copy CD-to-CD, data to CD, create video CD's, make music CD's, edit sound, design and print CD labels, and backup/restore files to a CD.

Click'N Design 3d Silver is a custom CD label creator.  It provides tools to create high quality CD/DVD and jewel case labels.  It comes with many backgrounds, clip art and texture images you can use to create your labels in addition to using your own images and graphics.

DJ Burn is another utility that comes with Click'N Burn Pro 2.0.  It allows you to record standard audio CD's that can be played in standard CD players.  DJ Burn lets you record from MP3, WAV, WMA files or tracks from another CD, records, video tapes, or cassettes by using your PC's sound card.  This allows you to customize your newly created CD to contain the music and song order you want without modified the track content.

Click'N Edit Sound LE, an audio recording and editing application, is another component of the suite.  It allows music to be recorded through your PC's sound card and stored on your hard drive for editing.  When you open this application, you see two screens.  The main screen allows you to view and edit your sound files that have been stored on your hard drive.  The playback/recording screen controls the playback and recording functions.  A few of the functions that can be selected include: mono or stereo recording, sample rate and bit depth, many sound effects, noise reduction, fade in/out, reverberation, pitch shift and the ability to  cut, copy, paste segments.

Veritas Drive Letter Access, DLA, is an included application that lets you use your CD-RW drive as if it were a hard drive.  This utility installs itself in the system tray and starts with your system.  It will format a CD-RW such that when it's placed into the CD drive, a drive letter will be assign to it.  You can then use Windows Explorer to copy and delete files from your disc without using any special software.

Last but not least, a backup utility called Veritas Simple Backup is included in the suite.  Options to backup/restore your entire system or specific files and folders are available from the main menu.  An explorer-like window is displayed where you simply place a check in the box next to the specific files and folders you want to backup.  This feature is very intuitive to use.  Unfortunately, you can only backup to CD's and not to another partition on your hard drive.  It would be very convenient to create file backups to another hard drive or partition for temporary storage without burning to a CD.  I was not able to perform a complete backup of my system to check the completeness of the restore feature.

The installation of these products was flawless on my Windows XP Pro system.  All programs worked without producing any system errors (quite a pleasant surprise compared to running some of the other CD burning software on the market).  When starting Click'N Burn Pro 2.0, an Anti-Wizard interface called Click'N Burn Starter is shown.  You have four selections to choose from: Disc Copy, Audio Disc, Data Disc and DJ Burn.  I would like to see the addition of Click'N Edit Sound, Click'N Design 3D, Create Video CD, Simple Backup, and DLA in the menu options.  This would allow the user one place to launch all applications.  Additionally, the interface when selecting Audio Disc or Data Disc is a little awkward to use.  An explorer type interface would be more intuitive for Windows OS users.  Another enhancement would be to have an option to automatically verify the information written to the CD after it has been burned.  Lastly, including a tutorial on the CD would help new users get up to speed quicker.  As always with today’s software and lack of good and complete documentation, there is still a learning curve to understand all the products included in the suite.

Click'N Burn Pro 2.0 by Stomp Inc. is a very complete package.  It requires a PC with a minimum 166 MHz or faster CPU, 23 MB of RAM, 35 MB free hard disk space and an OS running Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000, Windows NT 4.0 or XP Home/Professional.  Its retail price of $49.95 is a real value when you consider all the features it offers.  Other CD burning software generally costs at least this much and lacks some of the functionality of this suite.  This is a CD burning product that I would recommend.
